Alley-Oh
03:11
|
|||
We got dinner in our bellies and songs in our heads
And it’s so damn good to be together-oh
We got a few more hours til it’s time for bed
And we don’t really care about the weather-oh
Hootin and a hollerin, jumpin and a stompin
And playing til our limbs get heavy-oh
It ain’t about the money, no it ain’t about the fame
We’re just glad to be alive in the alley-oh
We got a head full of hopes and a pocketful of change
As we’re calling out from the alley-oh
Won’t you come listen come stand in the rain
Cause we’re singing our songs from an alley-oh
So the three of us are there just singing away
When we hear someone open up a window
She said “hey who are you? What songs can you play?”
I never heard such fine mandolin-oh
We got a head full of hopes and a pocketful of change
As we’re calling out from the alley-oh
Won’t you come listen come stand in the rain
Cause we’re singing our songs from an alley-oh
Some Ivy league boys walked by us right?
But they turned and came back to listen-oh
We played them some shanties and we made their night
And they tossed a few dollar bills in-oh
We got a head full of hopes and a pocketful of change
As we’re calling out from the alley-oh
Won’t you come listen come stand in the rain
Cause we’re singing our songs from an alley-oh
In a couple of days we’re gonna head back home
But not tonight I’m not ready-oh
We’re gonna shout until we make this alley our own
And we’re still going steady oh
We got a head full of hopes and a pocketful of change
As we’re calling out from the alley-oh
Won’t you come listen come stand in the rain
Cause we’re singing our songs from an alley-oh

Victim Vibes

so here’s how it is
People tend to show me their worst sides
All the little secrets they got behind their eyes
and usually it’s just talking, you know? But sometimes
They take control, they go insane,
they work their little fingers into my brain
They make me do what they want & be how they feel
They tell me my reality isn’t real
They tear me up from the inside out
What’s that about?
Well I’ve been thinking
Ooh I’ve been thinking
Something isn’t right
There’s only one common denominator here and it’s me, could it be
I have victim vibes? Victim vibes
Here’s a list of all the words they use to describe
all of the ways in which I’m just their type
and by that I mean easy to control but also!
Afraid of conflict, diplomatic, coachable, moldable, fake and elastic
Cuz I am an addict & praise is my heroin
don’t tell me off or my whole world will cave in
Destroyed by one little shout, what’s that about?
Well I’ve been thinking
Ooh I’ve been thinking
Something isn’t right
There’s only one common denominator here and it’s me, could it be
I have victim vibes? Victim vibes
oh baby, it’s over
I’m leaving you
But that doesn’t really matter does it? Because as soon as I’ve cut you off someone else will waltz into my life
and take your place
And make me feel… conditionally special
And by the time I’ve figured out what’s really going on it’ll be too late and the damage will be done
Well I’ve been thinking
Ooh I’ve been thinking
Something isn’t right
There’s only one common denominator here and it’s me, could it be
I have victim vibes? Victim vibes

Not Allowed

Hey so it's been a while since we last spoke
it's been a bit since our relationship went up in smoke
but I still watch you through my computer screen
to see what information I can glean
I've got a message for you
hope you don't think it's a joke
You're not allowed to like my favorite band, no
You're not allowed to like my favorite band
You're not allowed to like my favorite band
You're not allowed to like my favorite band, no
You're not allowed to like my favorite band
You're not allowed to like my favorite band
Maybe this is a futile pursuit
Maybe the point is moot
But I definitely like them more than you
and I understand them better than you do too
I wish their spotify would just give you the boot
You're not allowed to like my favorite band, no
You're not allowed to like my favorite band
You're not allowed to like my favorite band
You're not allowed to like my favorite band, no
You're not allowed to like my favorite band
You're not allowed to like my favorite band
If you wanted to like them
you should have stuck around
if you had even bothered
I think you would have found
that their music sounds way better when you listen with a friend
but you kicked me to the curb, so then
You're not allowed to like my favorite band, no
You're not allowed to like my favorite band
You're not allowed to like my favorite band
You're not allowed to like my favorite band, no
You're not allowed to like my favorite band
You're not allowed to like my favorite band
You're not allowed to like my favorite band, no
You're not allowed to like my favorite band
You're not allowed to like my favorite band

Geese

Fall, like a river at me
Fallowing sky will shed
All this time I watch from my window, thinking
Maybe this once I’ll get stuck in your head
Late, with the candle burning
Tired, with your arms outstretched
Didn’t know I wanted this till you showed me,
Didn’t know I needed this till you left
Please, I am only trying
Please, I have lost my head.
Huddled in the moon they are faintly watching
they take their time with their quivering legs
You were, a feather soaring
Lifelike, body churning
You were the mountair air through my fingers
You placed a hand on the back of my neck
Please, I am only trying
Please, I have lost my way.
There between the wall and night I’m calling
scour your heart for a reason to stay
Geese, bold and thoughtless creatures
Taking what winter’s left
Down along the banks I crouch low beside them
Rivers flow north when my mind is at rest
Late, with the candle burning,
Warm, with your arms outstretched
Didn’t know I wanted you till you showed me,
Didn’t know I needed you till you left

The tortoise and the hare they never got along
They bickered and they fought whether justified or not
The hare would sing the tortoise mocking songs
And the tortoise did reply by spreading rumors spreading lies until oh
One day the tortoise said let’s have a race
We’ll see if you can keep my slow steady pace
The fast running hare did laugh in his face
Said “lets set a time and a place”
Let me tell you the story of the tortoise and the hare
Written in tragedy contempt and despair
And I know you’ve probably heard it the wrong way
The wrong way around
The tortoise and the hare they raced alone
The hare ran fast and straight, and the tortoise finished late
But while the tortoise made his way back home
He told the jay he finished first, of all his lies this was the worst and oh
The jay told the fox with her sly little face
The fox told the squirrel as the squirrel she did chase
The squirrel told the deer and the deer told the snake
That slow and steady wins the race
Let me tell you the story of the tortoise and the hare
Written in tragedy contempt and despair
And I know you’ve probably heard it the wrong way
The wrong way around
The hare was so ashamed that all his friends no longer saw him as the fastest animal that he left his community and was on his own for the rest of his life. He died peacefully of old age in a hollow tree, alone.
I think its kinda sad that the tortoise managed to take everything from him like that and today most people still think of the hare as a lazy fool
But in a way, the tortoise eventually got what the deserved.
In 2006 the tortoise was arrested for tax evasion following an armed standoff outside his florida vacation home.
He was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison due to the fact that he had helped dozens if not hundreds of other animals commit the same crime.
After only 5 months, the tortoise choked on an apple core and died of complications. He could have easily survived if he had received proper medical attention. I bet you didn’t even know that he was still alive in 2006 but,
Tortoises live a long time

Vampires are Poseurs

I don’t believe in heaven
I do believe in hell
It’s down the street from here, we both lived there for years
We burned the calendars for warmth, and the alarm clocks just for fun
We closed the blinds and made goddamn sure that we could never see the sun
You could set a watch by the bottle returns and the ashtrays overflowing on the floor
Nothing’s free but time when you’re so damn poor
But the past was death row, and the future’s a battlefield
I hope we choose the right war
Cause I’ve been fist fighting gravity since the day I learned how to breathe
I still wake up on the same cold floor I fell asleep on
So I won’t, but we shall overcome someday
I can’t do it alone, but I shall be free someday
I don’t know how to live, but I’m sick of learning how to die
Vampirism is for poseurs in junior high
We made our own postal system across the continent
As long as freight trains run and loners pick up dreamers with thumbs, who needs governments
To get a letter to you, or a mixtape to me, or a postcard to Johnstown?
What’s a thousand miles between friends? What’s a friend that’s not worth crossing a country?
But I owe money and broken hearts from Philly to Sydney and back to Vermont
I regret a million things and that’s only what I haven’t forgot
But the past was a mine field, and right now is a prison break
I hope we make it alive
When who we are doesn’t stop where the law begins
Then we’ll storm their court houses to survive
So I won’t, but we shall overcome someday
I can’t do it alone, but we shall be free someday
I don’t know how to live, but I’m sick of learning how to die
Vampirism is for poseurs in junior high
